A driver being handed the keys to her replacement car outside her home

Non-fault accident? Know your options before you claim.

We’re an independent accident management company, not your insurer.

Three ways to claim after a non-fault accident

Tell your insurer about the accident, as your policy requires. You don’t have to make the claim through them.

Claim through your own policy

Your insurer handles the claim. A policy excess may apply until it’s recovered, and the claim can affect your no claims discount.

Claim directly from the at-fault insurer

You deal with the other driver’s insurer yourself. It can take longer and be more involved.

Use Motor Claims Department

The smarter way to claim for eligible non-fault drivers. We arrange recovery, a replacement vehicle and repairs outside your policy, and pursue the at-fault insurer for the costs.

Claiming through your own policy isn’t your only option

Motor Claims Department is an independent accident management company. We’re not an insurer and we’re not part of your insurer’s claims department. See our service standards and complaints process.

Why claim through Motor Claims Department

For eligible non-fault drivers who’d rather not make the claim through their own motor policy.

No policy excess to pay

When your claim is managed outside your motor policy. Claim through your insurer and an excess may apply.

Help protect your no claims discount

Your insurer still needs to know about the accident, and decides how it is recorded.

A comparable vehicle where you need one and it is available.

We claim from the at-fault insurer

On eligible non-fault claims we pursue the costs from the other driver’s insurer, not your policy.

Questions worth asking

Before you choose how your claim is handled.

Do I have to claim through my own policy?

No. You need to tell your insurer about the accident, as your policy requires, but you can choose how the claim is handled: through your policy, directly with the at-fault insurer, or through an accident management company like us.

Are you my insurer?

No. We’re an independent accident management company, not connected to your insurer. We’ll say so on the first call and in everything you sign.

About us

How is it paid for?

We recover our costs from the at-fault driver’s insurer. Your replacement vehicle and repairs are provided under a credit hire or credit repair agreement, which we explain before you agree to anything.

If fault can’t be established, you could be asked to cover the hire charges, so we tell you on the first call whether your claim is one we’d take on.

How credit hire works

What if the other driver disputes fault?

We look at liability before anything is agreed. If fault isn’t clear, we tell you what that means for your claim and what we’d need to take it forward.

Will I have to pay an excess?

Not when your claim is managed outside your own policy. If you claim through your insurer, an excess may apply, and you can often recover it once the claim succeeds.

Excess after a non-fault accident

Could this affect my premium?

Your insurer decides that, and you still declare the accident at renewal. Keeping the claim off your own policy can help protect your no claims discount.

Will I get a like-for-like vehicle?

Where you need one and it’s available, we aim to provide a comparable vehicle. We check what your own policy already gives you first.
